Well it's official. We're off to Galveston Island. God has opened some enormous doors for us to take a step of obedience into full-time mission work.
We're partnering with OneMission Galveston and a great couple (Pete & Lorie) to love on 25,000+ homeowners who still haven't received any help since Ike hit almost 2 years ago. It's more than rebuilding homes, though. It's obedience. We're saddened to leave our church, our friends, our family, and our house. But He is faithful. It's His provision that is essential and nothing else.
"If you do not give up everything you own, you cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:33
Some may look at this as crazy, radical, or stupid. God has taken us on a journey to react in complete surrender to His global purpose of loving the unlovable, the forgotten, and the least of these to show them the radical nature of God. What a call! And while bitter sweet, we are excited beyond comprehension for our family to be marked in this way.
"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." - Jim Elliot
Please pray for our family as I (Steve) head down to Galveston for a few weeks w/out Molly (and sequel), and Malachi. As well as God's provision in hammering down a place for our family to live on the island while we serve Him there. There are some transportation issues associated with the separation as well since we only have one vehicle. Molly and Malachi will have our only vehicle while I will be stranded on the island. There are many deadlines and crazy things ahead, but stress isn't even in the picture. Please pray.
more later...
